As a result, wherever you go in popular spots, there is an intense hustle and bustle of people, making it quite difficult to quietly enjoy a private travel experience.
In such a situation, don't you want to enjoy your own space with your loved ones as much as you can, with few tourists?
In this article, we will introduce some of the recommended spots on Miyako Island.

In fact, Miyako Island has many hole-in-the-wall spots!
When you hear the word Miyako Island, you probably have a strong image of beautiful sea and beaches.
Miyako Island still retains much of its pristine nature and has many natural beaches.
There are also some undeveloped areas and many hidden spots that are rarely mentioned in guidebooks!
Many tourists from the mainland use guidebooks as a reference guide, and most of them do not know about the best places to visit.
Of course, the regular spots are great, but if you go to the trouble, why don't you visit some lesser-known spots and enjoy your own original Miyako Island sightseeing freely?
Enjoy your tropical vacation to the fullest by being surrounded by the beautiful nature of Miyako Island and viewing some of the most spectacular scenery in Japan!
I want to enter once! Holey spots in Miyako Island
In recent years, the popularity of Miyako Island has skyrocketed, and everywhere you go, the island is crowded with tourists.
Once here, many visitors are captivated by the beauty of Miyako Island and return again and again!
Therefore, many people gather at the standard spots, and you may be disappointed when you come here with the intention of relaxing.
In such cases, we encourage you to visit a hole-in-the-wall spot!
There are still many parts of nature-rich Miyako Island that have not yet been shared as tourist information.
Enjoy your private time and sense of freedom to the fullest at such a secluded spot on Miyako Island.
Yoshino Coast
Yoshino Beach, located in the southeastern part of Miyako Island, is a natural beach with a large reef lagoon where you can see a lot of corals and many kinds of tropical fish even in shallow water.
Located so far away that it takes about 35 minutes by car from Miyako Airport, there are not many tourists.
The ocean facing this beach is so beautiful that sea turtles come to lay eggs as well as coral and tropical fish.
However, be very careful and visit at high tide if possible, as coral peeks out of the water at low tide and it is very dangerous to hit the coral.
Since general vehicles were not allowed on the beach, it used to be necessary to go down the steep slope on your own. However, in 2004, a parking lot, restrooms, and changing rooms were installed, and transportation to and from the beach (included in the parking fee) is now provided.
This will allow you to fully enjoy the activities.

Access: 35 minutes by car from Miyako Airport

Im Gyor Marine Garden
Located in the southern part of Miyako Island, Imugaya Marine Garden is a beach with a complex and distinctive inlet.
It is home to many coral reefs and tropical fish, and the intricate topography acts as a breakwater, so it is also called the natural swimming pool of Miyako Island.
It is also an excellent practice site for snorkeling on Miyako Island, where there are no pools deep enough to be used for diving lessons!
This is a beach where you can encounter a wide range of marine life, including coral and of course the clownfish and butterfly fish of "Finding Nemo" fame made famous by the Disney movie.
Many people enjoy the beauty of the marine life and lose track of time.
A promenade lined with natural Miyako Island trees and an observatory overlooking the ocean are also available, so depending on the time of day, visitors can enjoy a rich variety of views, including sunrise, sunset, and starry skies!
Location: 605-2 Aza-Tomori, Jobe, Miyakojima City, Okinawa, Japan

Maisa Beach
The Maeya Beach is one of the most secluded spots that are rarely introduced in guidebooks or on social networking sites.
Its location on the east coast makes it a popular sunrise spot!
The east coast of Miyako Island is lined with cliffs, and most of the beaches are below the cliffs, so you have to go down a very steep slope to reach any of the beaches.
Of course, the Maya coast is one of them, so one must be very careful when driving down steep downhill slopes.
Once you descend, however, the shallow ocean is much more open.
The northern beaches are dotted with coral reefs, although not many, and snorkeling is also possible.
However, there are no rental stores, so make your own preparations.
The south side of the beach also has very little coral reefs, tropical fish, and other underwater life, making it a great spot for swimming instead of snorkeling, diving, and other activities.
It is a natural beach with a private atmosphere and few tourists, but it is a great place for those who want to spend a relaxing and leisurely time if they bring their own food and drink, as it is equipped with toilets!
From here, you can also see across the sea to the island of Ogami, known as the Island of God.
Location: Hirara Nishihara, Miyakojima City, Okinawa
Access: 24 minutes by car from Miyako Airport

Ohno Mountain Forest
Miyako Island is famous for its lack of large mountains and rivers, but forests do in fact exist.
Onoyama forest is the largest forest on Miyako Island, with a total area of 119 ha, and is home to many trees such as redwood, ryukyu pine, and tabunoki.
It is also a spot where many birds inhabiting the Nansei Islands can be observed.
Visitors can encounter birds unique to Miyako Island, such as the wood pigeon and crow dove, which are designated natural treasures, as well as the Oriental oystercatcher and the great black-browed reed warbler, and it is said that there are as many as 300 species of birds.
Why not observe many plants, wild birds and other animals that cannot be seen on the mainland in the subtropical virgin forest?
There is also an observatory overlooking the Ono Mountain Forest, where you can listen to a wide variety of birds depending on the season.
Enjoy Miyako Island's only green belt surrounded by subtropical jungle to the fullest.

Edo period office in charge of finances (Kamakura and Muromachi periods)
The Ikema Ohashi Bridge connects Miyako Island and Ikema Island in the northern part of the island.
At the foot of the Miyakojima side of the island is Yedozaki.
This is a very rarely stopped spot, as the bridge is often crossed by driving.
In fact, this is also a hole-in-the-wall spot with a beautiful collaboration of the Ikema Ohashi Bridge and the crystal clear sea of Miyako Island, complete with necessary facilities such as a parking lot, restrooms, and a rest area!
The sun is in the right position throughout most of the day, and especially on the east side, the shallow sea plain stretches out and the color of the sea looks different depending on the ebb and flow of the tide, so you can enjoy the varied marine blue any time you visit.
This is the perfect spot for those who want to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Miyako Island all to themselves.

Koura Waterfront Park
Koura Waterfront Park in the Hirara area, the urban center of Miyako Island, is a very rare prefectural park with a pond and the ocean within the park!
Not only can bird-watching be done in the park, which has a bird-watching plaza, but even changing rooms and shower rooms are provided, so you can enjoy swimming without worrying about the rest of the day.
The nearby pond has a large number of tadpoles, and the space where freshwater and saltwater coexist will make you feel somewhat strange.

Watakuchi Beach
Located on Irabu Island, this beach is famous for the No. 1 powder sand in the Miyako Islands.
It is located approximately 7 km to the left of the Irabu Bridge, and its pure white sandy beach stretches for approximately 800 m in a bay-like shape.
The charm of Watakuchi no Hama is, after all, the fine white sand that makes a "squeaky" sound when you walk on it.
The beauty of the sea is also superb, and the contrast between the marine blue and white sand beaches promises the best view.
Also, although you cannot see the sunset over the ocean, the entire ocean is dyed in the color of the setting sun in the evening.
It is sure to be another spectacular view.
It is also nice to enjoy the starry sky all around at night.
From this beach, you can see Miyako Island, Kurima Island, and Shimoji Island.
Watakuchi no Hama is beautiful at both low and high tide because of the continuous white sand on the seabed.
There is also a breakwater at the end of the beach, a popular photo spot.
Although not suitable for snorkeling, activities such as water sports and sea kayaking are also popular.
It is also a hidden spot where you can stay for a longer period of time as there are stores, toilets, showers, etc. nearby.

Kaganmi (Ikema rope)
Kaginmi is a rather unusual hole-in-the-wall spot on Ikema Island that requires access over a cliff!
Due to the difficulty of access, people rarely visited the area, but because of its spectacular scenery, it has recently begun to be introduced on social networking sites and in guidebooks.
To access the beach, visitors descend the cliffs along ropes.
The rope is affectionately known as the Ikema rope, and the beach itself is sometimes referred to as the Ikema rope.
The thrill of a rope descending to a beautiful hole-in-the-wall spot provides an extraordinary sense of excitement!
However, since there are no monitors stationed at this spot, nor are there any facilities at all, we recommend that you avoid going alone and visit in a group of several people!

Hora Izumi Beach
Hora Izumi Beach, located on the south side of Miyako Island, has limestone caves and is famous for its limestone cave exploration tours.
You can explore this rare space by foot or kayak, which is only accessible at low tide.
It is a hole-in-the-wall spot for those who play in the ocean, as it is famous for its limestone caves and few people come for the ocean itself.
In addition, on the way to the beach, there is a natural spring-water pool, where you can also enjoy an 80-meter-long water slide (fee required), allowing you to play in both the ocean and the pool.
The underwater world is also ideal for snorkeling, with varied rock formations, corals, and plenty of tropical fish.
